REVERSE FOX HUNTS (Tag, You're It!)
Reverse Fox Hunts are sufficiently different form regular
Fox Hunts to be given their own category. It is recommend that one
participate in a regular Fox Hunt before attempting a Reverse Fox Hunt.
Reverse Fox Hunts are the High
Tech version of the childhood game we used to call; "Tag, You're it!" In
Reverse Fox Hunts, the normal roles are switched; the Hounds go on the
run and the Fox attempts to “tag” one of them using direction finding
equipment and techniques. When a Hound is “tagged” he becomes the new Fox for the next round.
Three or more rounds are common.
The participants arrive at the start location, at the
start time, and sign in. After everyone has signed in, the Fox will
announce the Hunt Frequency, the Hunt Boundary, Hunt Time Limit,
suggested Transmitter Power. The Hounds will then be given a 15 minute
head start, before the Fox starts calling on them on the radio.
Awards are not given in Reverse
Fox Hunts, but MSRDF members receive Member Points for participation and
also based on their performance in the hunt, which count toward future
certificates.
Mobile Version: In Mobile Reverse Fox
Hunts, the Fox and all of the Hounds have Color Coded Numbers on the
windows of the four sides of their vehicles. Each of the Hounds are
assigned tactical call sign which coincides with the colored number in
their vehicle’s windows. Every-time the Fox transmits "This is the
Fox, ready or not here I come" each of the Hounds must reply in round
table fashion, starting with number one: “This is Number One Blue
checking in, this Number One Blue checking in” you’ll never catch me
little fox. You will never catch me little fox. This is Number One
Blue passing it over to Number Two Red.”And so it goes until all of the
Hounds have transmitted. The Fox can call as often as he likes to get
the Hounds to transmit. However, he cannot call on just one or more
specific Hounds. Any Hounds who do not reply to the Fox's call are
disqualified.
When the Fox gets close enough
to a Hound to read his number he beeps his horn at him and then calls
out his number on the hunt frequency. “Number Red Four, I see you.” At
that point the Number Red Four Hound becomes the new Fox and the
previous Fox has fifteen minutes of amnesty to get away. At that time
the new Fox calls out on the frequency, "This is the Fox, ready or not
here I come." And all of the Hounds reply again, except the previous Fox
who has 15 minutes of amnesty before he has to begin replying.
Pedestrian Version:
In Pedestrian Reverse Fox Hunts, the Fox and all of the Hounds have
Color Coded Numbers which they pin on the front and back of their
clothing. Each of the Hounds are assigned tactical call sign which
coincides with their colored number. Every-time the Fox transmits "This
is the Fox, ready or not here I come" each of the Hounds must reply in
round table fashion, starting with number one: “This is Number One Blue
checking in, this Number One Blue checking in” you’ll never catch me
When the Fox gets close enough
to see a Hound he calls out in a loud voice (not over the radio) HALT!
At that point the Hound must freeze where he is. The Fox then hikes up
to the Hound, ascertains his number, and says over the radio on the hunt
frequency. “Number Blue Two, I see you.” At that point the Number Blue
Two Hound becomes the new Fox and the previous Fox has fifteen minutes
of amnesty to get away. At that time the new Fox calls out on the
frequency, "This is the Fox, ready or not here I come." And all of the
Hounds reply again, except the previous Fox who has 15 minutes of
amnesty before he has to begin replying.
